Delhi: In a tragic incident a 32-year-old labourer died after falling into a open sewer. This incident occurred in the Begumpur area of Delhi on February 11, 2026. According to IANS report the deceased identified as Birju was missing since yesterday afternoon.
Police reached at the spot and carried out a search operation, but he was found dead. Authorities have now covered the sewer hole, and further legal action is underway. This incident has raised serious concern about the safety.

Budhan Das (also known as Suraj), a fellow laborer, reported to police that he and Birju consumed alcohol Monday night. Around 7:30 pm, while returning home, Birju fell into an open manhole. Das, intoxicated at the time, did not report the incident until later, when he informed Amir Hussain. Police were alerted via a PCR call at 2:36 PM reporting a missing person suspected of falling into a sewer on vacant DDA land in Sector-32, Rohini.

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned from Amir Hussain that Budhan Das had witnessed Birju fall into the manhole the previous night but did not report it due to intoxication. The fire brigade, DDA, and other agencies were notified, and a rescue operation commenced. Birju's body was recovered from the manhole with the fire brigade's assistance and transported to the hospital. An investigation is underway.
