In a major blow to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress wooed back BJP Lok Sabha MP from Bankura district Soumitra Khan's wife Sujata Mondal Khan to its fold.

Angered by Mondal’s decision to leave the BJP, Khan threatened his with divorce and said that his relationship with her was over.

Mondal joined the Trinamool Congress on Monday in presence of veteran Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy and the party's spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.

Soumitra is currently the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Member of Parliament (MP) from Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.

Saumitra Khan broke down in public while reacting to his wife’s decision to join Mamata Banerjee. He said, “I am sending a divorce notice to Sujata today.”

He told a news channel, “I wouldn’t have any ties with her since this will amount to breaking the trust of many people who are with me today.” He said that both PM Modi and BJP President JP Nadda treated Mondal as their daughter, adding that the TMC had stolen his wife.

The crucial political move came just 48-hours after former TMC heavyweight leader Suvendu Adhikari along with several MLAs and MPs joined the BJP during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's rally at Midnapore College Ground on Saturday.
