India's total active COVID-19 caseload significantly dropped to 2,54,254 which is the lowest after 179 days, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

India's total active COVID-19 caseload significantly dropped to 2,54,254 which is the lowest after 179 days, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

The total active cases were 2,53,287 on July 6, 2020.

In the last 24 hours, 23,181 recoveries were registered against 20,035 new cases. The Health Ministry observed that the recoveries outnumber daily new cases from the last 35 days.

As per the MoHFW data, the total recovered cases are nearing 99 lakh with a recovery rate of 96.08 per cent. Around 78 per cent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states/Union Territories.

Kerala has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 5,376 newly recovered cases, while 3,612 people recovered in Maharashtra followed by 1,537 in West Bengal.

80.19 per cent of the new cases are concentrated in 10 states and UTs.

Kerala reported the highest daily new cases at 5,215, followed by Maharashtra with 3,509 new cases.

In the past 24 hours, 256 new fatalities have been reported across the country. Ten states/UTs account for 80.47 per cent of new deaths with Maharashtra observing the maximum casualties (58).

Moreover, daily deaths have been less than 300 since the last 7 days and the present mortality rate stands at 1.45 per cent.

Five states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi account for 63 per cent of total COVID deaths in the country, the Ministry said.
