Indore: Newly Married Woman Found Hanging After Dispute With Husband in Vijay Nagar

A 20-year-old newly married woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Indore’s Vijay Nagar area on Monday, triggering shock and grief among locals. The deceased has been identified as Monica Chauhan, who lived with her husband, Ritesh Patel, in Kalp Kamdhenu Nagar under the Vijay Nagar police station limits. Monica was involved in stitching work from home, while her husband earned a living as a bike taxi driver. According to initial information, the incident occurred when Ritesh was not present at home, and Monica was alone inside the house during the day.

Police said the couple had an argument earlier on Monday after Monica asked her husband to take her to purchase cloth for her stitching work. Ritesh reportedly expressed his inability to do so due to some reasons, which led to a disagreement between the two. He later left the house, and upon returning, allegedly found Monica hanging inside the house. He immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. The couple had a love marriage and had known each other since their school days before tying the knot in April 2025.

Meanwhile, the woman’s father, Hiralal Chauhan, has raised serious allegations against the police and the in-laws. He claimed that when Monica left home last year, a missing complaint was filed at Khajrana police station, but no effective action was taken. He also alleged that his daughter was being troubled at her marital home, information they received through relatives. Vijay Nagar police said a case has been registered, all angles are being examined, and the family’s allegations will be thoroughly investigated.
