Jammu and Kashmir Forest Fire: Huge Blaze Engulfed Upper Reaches of Uri and Other Areas (Watch Video)

Forest fires, driven by strong winds, broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri District on Thursday, January 22, which was triggered by a prolonged dry spell, according to the news agency IANS.

Flames and thick smoke were seen engulfing forest areas, prompting firefighting efforts to contain the blaze. According to the Kashmir Life report, high-velocity winds are rapidly spreading wildfires in several areas, particularly in south Kashmir.

Mohammad Ashraf Katoo, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) for Kulgam, who currently holds additional charge of the Anantnag division, confirmed that five major sites are currently battling the blaze.

In Anantnag district, active fires are raging through the forest ranges of Manzmoh and Verinag. Simultaneously, three critical spots in Kulgam district—Lammer, Akhal, and Pranhal—have also been significantly affected.
