The victims who were street vendors were returning home when the Land Rover coming from sector 56 area hit them from behind on Golf Course Extension road. The impact of the accident was such that air bags of the vehicle opened up.

The two siblings were crushed under the wheels and their 'Golgappa' cart tossed in the air. The SUV eventually stopped after crashing into the pavement.

Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan said the errant driver locked the SUV and fled from the spot after the accident.

"The SUV is brand new and does not have a registration number plate. We have seized the vehicle and efforts are on to identify its owners on the basis of engine and chassis numbers. So far, no one has come forward to claim the vehicle," Bokan said.

"We have recovered the dead bodies of the deceased and efforts are on to identify them too," Bokan said.

There was no street light or CCTV camera installed at the traffic signal.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said that they assembled at the spot after hearing a loud noise due to the impact of the accident. They claimed that the vehicle was driven by a minor boy who lost control of the vehicle while making a turn at Vatika Chowk.
