Meeras-e-Kashmir showcases essence of Kashmiri culture at DU

To showcase the spirit, flavour and essence of the Kashmiri culture, the University of Delhi (DU) organised the first of a series of cultural events "Meeras-e-Kashmir" at Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall, here on Tuesday.

New Delhi, Feb 18 To showcase the spirit, flavour and essence of the Kashmiri culture, the University of Delhi (DU) organised the first of a series of cultural events "Meeras-e-Kashmir" at Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall, here on Tuesday.

The series is being organised under the banner of "Cultural Flavours of India" to showcase the country's diverse cultural heritage.

The university also announced a Rs 100,000 award for the DU academics and researchers for articles on the Kashmiri culture and music in the scopus-indexed journals and with extraordinary ideas for the overall development of Kashmir.

At the event, Pt Bhajan Sopori enthralled the audience with santoor recital, which was followed by rendition of Kashmiri folk songs by Sapna Kachroo, Waseem Ahmed Bhat and Mukesh Kumar.

Speaking at the event, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi said, "Like Delhi is the capital of India, India is the cultural capital of world."

"Being the premier institution of India, onus is on us in academia to appreciate the importance of geographical location, natural beauty, culture, cuisine, tradition, literature of Kashmir," Tyagi said.
