Mewati highway robber arrested in Gurugram

Gurugram Police has arrested a member of a Mewati gang that used to offer a lift to passengers and then rob them at gunpoint.

The accused, Shokeen, a resident of Nuh town, had recently committed a crime with three of his accomplices at Rajiv Chowk on June 4.

He has been booked under relevant IPC sections of robbery and taken in police remand for two days after being produced in a city court on Monday.

During interrogation, Shokeen revealed that he and his accomplices had offered a lift to a person at Rajiv Chowk.

"The victim was an executive of an MNC company in sector 32. After his shift was over at night around 8 P.M., he was waiting at Rajiv Chowk for a vehicle. Shokeen and his men spotted him with a bag and stopped their vehicle near him. When he asked for a ride till Mahipalpur, the accused gave him a seat in the rear of the car," said Subhash Bokan, PRO of Gurugram Police.

"They then took him to Gurugram-Faridabad expressway and stole all valuables, including his laptops, two mobile phones, three credit cards, a hard disk and Rs 800 cash from his wallet. The accused also withdrew Rs 500 from one of the credit cards. They then transferred money from the credit cards into their bank accounts through PayTM wallet," Bokan said.

"We have the description of the other accused and the crime branch teams are looking for them."
