MP farmers to get more compensation against land acquisition for mega projects
Bhopal, April 22 The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a series of decisions aimed at safeguarding farmers’ interests and strengthening public welfare sectors.
Responding to long-standing demands from farmer organisations, the Cabinet on Wednesday revised the compensation framework for land acquisition. Under the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2015, the “multiplication factor” for rural areas has been increased from one to two. This change will ensure that farmers receive four times the compensation when their land is acquired for government or public construction projects.
Narendra Shivaji Patel, minister of state for public health and medical education, described the move as a decisive step towards fairness and transparency.
In addition to this landmark reform, projects worth over Rs 33,000 crore have been sanctioned across the state. The Indo-Rudrahada Micro-Irrigation Project in Ujjain, with a provision of Rs 157 crore, will bring 10,800 hectares of farmland under irrigation, benefiting 35 villages.
Similarly, the special rehabilitation package under the Ken-Betwa Project has been augmented by Rs 128 crore, extending benefits to 628 villages. The Public Works Department has received approvals amounting to Rs 25,164 crore for the upgradation of rural roads, bridges, and buildings. In education, the free bicycle scheme for students in Classes 6 and 9 has been expanded, with an allocation of Rs 990 crore.
Teacher training institutions will also be strengthened with a provision of Rs 1,200 crore, ensuring better academic outcomes in the future, the minister said. Healthcare has been prioritised with sanctions of Rs 5,779 crore to enhance medical services.
Under the newly introduced ‘CM Care’ scheme, oncology, cardiology, and organ transplantation facilities will be reinforced, the minister said, adding arrangements for accommodation and meals for patients’ relatives at medical colleges and district hospitals will be facilitated through partnerships with non-profit organisations.
The government also highlighted the success of the ‘Sankalp Se Samadhan Abhiyan,’ which resolved nearly all of the 4.7 million applications received from citizens.
The ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan’ has elevated Madhya Pradesh to third place nationally in water conservation efforts. Educational outcomes have shown marked improvement, particularly among female students.
Additionally, a plan to develop Janapav, the birthplace of Lord Parashurama, has been approved, underscoring the state’s commitment to cultural heritage, said the minister.
These decisions collectively reflect the government’s resolve to empower farmers, improve infrastructure, and strengthen social sectors, marking a transformative moment in Madhya Pradesh’s development journey, he said.
