A speeding truck ran over eight people standing by the roadside in Bihar's Samastipur. Three were killed on the spot, while five escaped with critical injuries. An enraged mob set the truck on fire.

Sarairanjan police station in-charge Sanjeev Kumar told on Wednesday that many people were standing on the roadside, near Tiswara village, on NH-103 late on Tuesday. The driver lost control of the truck while heading to Patna from Samastipur and ran over the crowd.

The injured are in hospital. The truck driver managed to escape though he was chased for some distance.
