Tejashwi Yadav alleges corruption, fiscal mismanagement by Bihar govt

Patna, April 22 Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, on Wednesday, launched a fresh attack on the ruling National Democratic Alliance government, alleging large-scale corruption and serious financial mismanagement.

In a detailed post on X, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that public funds were recklessly spent during the election period, leaving the state treasury depleted.

According to him, the government is now struggling to function and is heavily dependent on borrowed funds to sustain its operations.

He claimed that the state is facing a severe financial crisis, pointing to recent government circulars on expenditure control and fund withdrawals as evidence of fiscal distress.

In his remarks, he also accused the administration of distributing nearly Rs 41,000 crore in the final days leading up to the elections through what he described as a dysfunctional system, allegedly under the watch of Nitish Kumar.

Tejashwi further alleged that due to financial mismanagement, the government has been unable to meet key obligations such as social pensions, student credit schemes, scholarships, and even salaries and pensions for employees.

He claimed that Bihar is now operating under a mounting debt burden exceeding Rs 4 lakh crore, with the government reportedly spending over Rs 100 crore daily just on loan interest.

Citing a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), he alleged that utilisation certificates for around Rs 90,000 crore have not been submitted, raising serious questions about transparency and accountability in public spending.

He further claimed that the government is unable to clearly account for how Rs 92,132 crore was spent.

The RJD leader also criticised the overall governance, alleging a lack of vision and direction, and claimed that development activities in the state have come to a standstill due to financial constraints.

These allegations, however, are part of an ongoing political confrontation between the opposition and the ruling alliance in Bihar.

The NDA has, in the past, rejected similar accusations, maintaining that governance and financial management in the state remain on track.
