Tripura deploys additional force after Ayodhya verdict

In view of the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya, the police authorities in Tripura have deployed additional security forces and alerted all police stations across the northeastern state, bordering Bangladesh, a top official said on Saturday.

"We have alerted all the police stations and security posts all across Tripura and deployed additional security personnel in the sensitive, important and mixed populated areas," Rajiv Singh, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) told .

He said that the situation is absolutely normal in all the places.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in view of the Supreme Court verdict in Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.

Welcoming the apex court judgement, Deb, who is also the President of the Tripura unit of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, said that the historic Judgement would further strengthen India's social fabric.

"I urge communities to maintain social harmony, peace and unity. I appeal to everyone to accept the judgement of the Honourable Supreme Court. I congratulate everybody for this verdict," the Chief Minister tweeted.

According to a senior police official in Aizawl, the situation in Mizoram is fairly normal and peaceful. Four Indian northeastern states of Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km) and Assam (263 km) share an 1,880-km border with Bangladesh.

After seven decades of a protracted legal battle, the Supreme Court on Saturday pronounced the judgment in Ayodhya title dispute case and asked the central government to give the disputed land in Ayodhya to the Hindus for a temple and five acres of alternate land to the Muslims for a mosque.
