CIDCO’s Inaction on Housing Regularisation Sparks Protest from Project-Affected Families

Panvel: MLA Prashant Thakur has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to instruct CIDCO to immediately implement the September 23, 2024 government resolution allowing the regularisation of need-based houses constructed by project-affected residents of Navi Mumbai.

Need-based houses refer to homes built by affected families due to the natural increase in family members, forcing them to expand their living space near their ancestral villages for housing and livelihood.

In a formal memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Thakur highlighted that land from 95 villages in Thane, Panvel, and Uran talukas was acquired under CIDCO’s jurisdiction for the Navi Mumbai project. However, the government failed to consider the future population growth of these villages. This oversight forced project-affected residents to construct homes near their original settlements to accommodate their expanding families.

Local representatives have consistently raised the issue for years, resulting in multiple government resolutions—initially in 2010, followed by revised decisions on February 25, 2022, and December 7, 2022. After further deliberations, a final revised resolution was issued on September 23, 2024, permitting the regularization of houses built before February 25, 2022, and providing land leases to affected families.

Despite the clear government directive, CIDCO has yet to take any action and continues to issue demolition notices for houses constructed before 2022. Calling this approach unjust, Thakur criticized CIDCO for its inaction and lack of transparency, which has caused widespread confusion among villagers and local leaders.

Thakur has demanded immediate implementation of the September 23, 2024 resolution to ensure justice and relief for the project-affected families.
