Mumbai: BMC Halts Concrete Work on Auxilium Convent Road After Residents’ Protest

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has temporarily halted the planned concreting work on Auxilium Convent Lane in Bandra's Pali Hill area following strong opposition from residents. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani directed officials to review the concerns raised by residents before making a final decision.

Residents submitted a petition highlighting that the narrow lane is already in good condition and sees minimal traffic. They expressed fears that concreting could damage fully grown trees, cause access issues for a nearby girls’ school, and create difficulties for senior citizens due to dust and disruption. Additionally, with a building redevelopment project set to begin soon, they argued that simultaneous construction activities would worsen inconveniences and potentially block emergency access.

Taking note of these concerns, Commissioner Gagrani ordered an immediate suspension of the roadwork. He has instructed the road department to hold discussions with residents, assess the situation, and make an appropriate decision accordingly.

This move comes as a relief for the Pali Hill community, who now await the next steps from the civic authorities regarding the project’s future.
