A violent clash broke out between auto-rickshaw drivers which claimed life of 18-year-old Ayan Mehboob Sheikh, who succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The incident occurred on Sunday May 17 night outside the Ghansoli railway station. According to FPJ report dispute started over a dispute related to auto drivers allegedly picking up passengers without following the designated queue system.
The dispute between auto driver Sudhya (Subhash Jadhav) and Adil Rafiq Sheikh escalated into a violent group confrontation, resulting in the death of Ayan Sheikh. Police reported that Ayan Sheikh was fatally attacked with knives, stones, and other objects when he tried to intervene. He died in hospital on Monday from severe head injuries. Swapnil Kashinath Surve, 30, and Pramod Vasant Mankar, 31, were arrested shortly after the incident, but Sudhya (Subhash Jadhav) and Satya (Satish) remain at large.
Senior Police Inspector Umesh Gawali stated that the case has been upgraded to murder following Ayan Sheikh's death. Police are actively searching for the remaining suspects and reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts as part of their investigation.
Following his death, Koparkhairane police have converted the case into a murder offence and intensified efforts to arrest the remaining absconding accused.
