New Delhi [India], September 30 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Indian athletes Kartik Kumar and Gulveer Singh for clinching silver and bronze medals in the men's 10,000-metre Final at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.

"Another moment of glory for India as Kartik Kumar, with his exceptional display of dedication and perseverance brings home the Silver Medal in the 10,000m event. Congratulations to him and my best wishes for his efforts ahead," PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Kartik Kumar bagged silver in the 10,000m event while Gulveer secured bronze. 

"Compliments to our exceptional athlete Gulveer Singh who has won the Bronze Medal in 10,000m at the Asian Games. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours. His determination will surely inspire other athletes," PM Modi further wrote.

Kartik won silver with a timing of 28:15.38s while Gulveer clocked 28:17.21s to claim the bronze.

The duo delivered on the big stage and earned India medals in athletics.

Both Indians got into medal contention in the final 100 metres after three of their competitors fell in quick succession after colliding with each other.

Bahrain's Birhanu Yemataw Balew won the gold medal with a time of 28:13.62 seconds.
