Shooter Ravi Kumar has been tested positive for banned susbstance just months before the Tokyo Olmypics. The 29-year-old rifle shooter flunked a dope test after returning from the Munich World Cup. In his defence, the shooter argued that the the drug ‘inadvertently’ entered his body after he took a medicine for migraine.

Kumar has won medals for India at World Cups and Asian Championships, apart from multi-discipline games. The National Rifle Association of India had communicated to Kumar that he was not eligible to be picked for the Indian team once he was provisionally suspended but he continued to compete in selection trials since NADA gave him a NOC. According to NADA sources, Ravi was tested during the Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Meet in Delhi in June. His sample found traces of propranolol a medication of the beta blocker class.
