Petrol and diesel prices are hitting record highs every day as international crude oil prices rise sharply. The situation of middle-class men and the poor had gone drastically down. In many cities across the country, petrol and diesel prices have crossed the Rs 100 mark.

State-owned oil companies on Thursday hiked petrol and diesel prices by 35-35 paise per liter. After the hike, the petrol price in Delhi has gone up to Rs 108.29 per liter and diesel to Rs 97.02 per liter.

There is an atmosphere of resentment for the growing fuel prices among the people of India. Opposition groups are calling for a reduction in taxes on petrol and diesel. But there are many countries in the world where the price of petrol is higher than in India.

Even though the price of petrol and diesel in India has gone beyond Rs 100, but these prices are much lower as compared to some other countries. The most expensive petrol in the world is in Hong Kong. According to globalpetrolprices.com, the price of petrol in Hong Kong in September was 2.56 dollars.

In the European country of the Netherlands, a liter of petrol costs 2.18, or Rs 163 per liter. Petrol is priced at Rs 160 per liter in the Central African Republic.

The cheapest petrol in the world is found in the South American country of Venezuela. Here the petrol price is only Rs 1.50 for a liter of petrol. It's cheaper than a matchbox.

In India, the price of a stick will be Rs 2 from December. That is, if you are in Venezuela, you can buy 30 liters of petrol for less than 50 rupees. It will cost you Rs 52.50 to fill a 35-liter tank of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.
