Pune, Maharashtra: A device containing low-grade explosives was found on the premises of a private hospital in Hadapsar area on Wednesday, May, 13, 2026. According to the reports, the object was spotted near a washroom inside the hospital premises. A doctor noticed the suspicious device, which reportedly had a digital clock-like object attached to it, and informed the police control room.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from Pune Police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the hospital and sealed the entire area. Patients, relatives and hospital staff were moved to safe locations, while traffic around the hospital was temporarily diverted. The BDDS team later took the device to a nearby ground and safely disposed of it.

"A device having low-grade explosives was found on the premises of a hospital. BDDS was called and they successfully disposed of the explosives," Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told reporters outside the hospital as quoted by PTI.

According to the reports, the Pune police, crime branch and ATS are probing the case from all possible angles, including terror.

NCP MLA Chetan Vitthal Tupe confirmed that the explosive device was live and said a major mishap had been avoided due to the quick action of security agencies.

“A bomb had been planted inside the hospital, which has now been successfully defused through the joint efforts of the police and the bomb squad. There is currently no cause for alarm. The entire hospital building, as well as the surrounding premises, has been thoroughly scanned. There is absolutely no threat remaining at this moment,” Tupe said.

“However, it was indeed a live explosive device. Had any mishap occurred, the consequences could have been severe, given the large number of people present inside the hospital and in the immediate vicinity,” he added.

Tupe said police and administrative authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, including an examination of CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby areas.

“The police and the administration have initiated an investigation into the incident, which involves a review of CCTV footage. All these aspects are currently being examined, and the police will disclose their findings once the investigation is complete,” he said.

The MLA further said that the identity of the person who planted the device has not yet been established, although some individuals have come under suspicion.

“As of now, the identity of the person who planted the bomb remains unknown. However, certain individuals have come under suspicion. It is alleged that sometime in the afternoon or evening, a vehicle, possibly a rental car, stopped at the location. A man stepped out of the vehicle and later returned before the car left from another side,” Tupe said, citing eyewitness accounts.

He added that police are probing all possible angles, including the possibility of a terror-related incident.

“The police investigation will certainly explore every angle, including the possibility of a terrorist attack, though it would be inappropriate to confirm or deny such a scenario until the inquiry is complete,” he said.

Tupe also said that doctors and hospital staff would be questioned as part of the investigation.
