Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela 2027: Pune Student’s Design Chosen as Official Logo
A student from Pune has designed the official logo for the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, reflecting the centuries-old spiritual legacy of the grand religious gathering. The selected design captures the religious and cultural importance of Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, along with the sacred essence of the Godavari River and the spiritual energy associated with the Kumbh Mela tradition. The winning artwork was created by Sumit Kate, whose logo was chosen as the official visual identity for the internationally significant religious event. The announcement marked a major moment in preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which is expected to attract millions of devotees from across India and abroad.
The official unveiling ceremony of the logo took place in Mumbai on Wednesday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. The logo competition organised by the Kumbh Mela authority for the 2027 event received an overwhelming response from participants in India and overseas. A total of 3,067 entries were submitted, including nearly 70 from foreign countries. Students, designers and creative professionals from more than 25 Indian states took part in the competition. Maharashtra alone contributed 1,055 entries, with strong participation from Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. Sumit Kate from Pune emerged as the winner among thousands of participants.

During the ceremony, winners of the competition were honoured with certificates and cash prizes by the dignitaries present at the event. Sumit Kate secured first place in the logo design competition and received a prize of Rs 3 lakh along with a certificate. The second prize of Rs 2 lakh was awarded to Mayank Nayak from Noida, while Piyush Pimpaleker from Pandharpur secured third place and received Rs 1 lakh. Several senior leaders and ministers attended the programme, including Kumbh Mela Minister Girish Mahajan, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Education Minister Dada Bhuse. The initiative was organised in association with the Association Designers of India, with Yogesh Dandekar and Balkrishna Mahajan also remaining present during the ceremony.
Officials said the selected logo will serve as the official visual symbol of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 and will be widely used across all communication platforms linked to the event. Kumbh Mela Commissioner Shekhar Singh stated that the logo would appear on official correspondence, direction boards, awareness campaigns and promotional materials connected with the religious congregation. To spread the message globally and create public awareness, the logo will also be projected at some of Mumbai’s iconic landmarks, including the Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Authorities believe the visual identity will help strengthen the international recognition of the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
The competition was designed to provide artists and students with an opportunity to create a symbol representing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Nashik and Trimbakeshwar before a worldwide audience. Organisers said the response from the younger generation was extremely enthusiastic, making the selection process highly challenging due to the quality of the submissions received. A panel of experts carefully evaluated more than 3,000 entries before finalising the winners. The judging panel included noted personalities such as Prasoon Joshi, Ashwini Deshpande, Mandar Rane, Vrushali Khekare, Warish Date, Vinay Narang, Dr Prajakta Baste and Dinesh Vaidya. The judges were also felicitated during the official unveiling ceremony in Mumbai.
