Pune Viral Video: 6-Year-Old Boy Spotted Driving Auto Rickshaw on Wakad Road (Watch Video)
A shocking incident has surfaced in Pune, raising serious concerns about road safety and enforcement in the city. A video that is currently going viral on social media shows a young boy, barely six to seven years old, driving an auto rickshaw on a busy road near Phoenix Mall in the Wakad area. The footage clearly captures the minor handling the steering wheel and navigating the vehicle on a main road with moving traffic. What has alarmed viewers even more is that his father is seen seated in the back of the rickshaw, allowing the child to drive, thereby putting both their lives and the safety of others at considerable risk.
The incident reportedly took place on a heavily crowded stretch, increasing the likelihood of a serious accident. Citizens have expressed outrage, questioning who would have been held accountable if an unfortunate mishap had occurred. Many have criticised the irresponsible behaviour of the parent and the apparent disregard for traffic rules. Additionally, questions are being raised about the absence of traffic police vigilance at the spot, as such a dangerous act went unnoticed. The episode has once again highlighted gaps in the city’s traffic monitoring and enforcement systems, prompting calls for stricter oversight and preventive action.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, minors are strictly prohibited from driving any motor vehicle, and violations can lead to stringent action against guardians. Despite this, such incidents continue to be reported, indicating a lack of effective enforcement of existing rules. The viral video has been widely shared, intensifying public demand for strict action against the parent involved. Citizens have urged the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police to take immediate cognisance of the matter, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure that appropriate legal action is taken against those responsible to prevent such reckless behaviour in the future.
