Taiwan’s President William Lai Ching-te was splashed with vomit by an official during a visit to a temple in Tainan. The official, identified as Lin Pei-huo, Chairman of the Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, suddenly vomited while standing near the President. The vomit splattered on Lai and several others present at the event.
Despite the unexpected incident, President Lai remained calm. A doctor present at the event immediately checked on Lin’s condition and provided initial first aid. Security personnel and medical staff then stepped in and took Lin for further treatment, briefly pausing the programme.

The video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, in which legislator and Tainan mayoral candidate Chen Ting-fei was delivering a speech. Lin attempted to cover his mouth with his hand, but the force of the vomit caused it to spill and hit those nearby, including the President.
Later addressing the audience, President Lai explained that members of Lin’s family had recently contracted norovirus and that Lin might also have been affected. He said Lin’s condition had stabilised. Lin later apologised, saying he had fallen ill due to the virus and regretted the disruption caused by the incident.
