A 27-year-old trekker from Thane was rescued after falling nearly 100 feet from a cliff in a forested area near Karjat following a four-hour search and rescue operation led by local villagers.

The trekker, identified as Srikanta Sahu, had begun his journey from Dadar on foot a few days earlier. During his trek, he stayed overnight at Khandas Village on Thursday.

While exploring forest trails and searching for a route, Sahu reportedly slipped from a cliff and plunged about 100 feet, sustaining injuries in the fall. With his phone battery nearly drained and only 2% charge remaining, he managed to send a screenshot of his location to a family member, alerting them to his situation.

After receiving the distress message, the family contacted locals in the area. Farmhouse owner Nivrutti Enkar organised a nine-member team and launched a search operation to locate the injured trekker. Guided by the shared location, the group combed the forest and eventually found Sahu.

The rescuers brought him safely back to the village, where he was given water and food and allowed to rest. The Karjat Police were later informed about the incident.

Enkar said Sahu spent Friday night resting in the village before leaving for his native place on Saturday morning.
