The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set for a sweeping victory in the Haryana municipal elections, securing nine out of ten mayoral seats, including the high-profile Gurugram post. An independent candidate, Dr Inderjit Yadav—a BJP rebel—is leading in Manesar, the only exception to the ruling party’s dominance.The results mark another setback for the Congress, which had already suffered a defeat in the Assembly elections last year despite an early lead. Notably, the party has rarely contested local body polls under its official symbol, making this election a significant test for its grassroots strength. Saroj Jain won Ward number 1 by 3618 votes, Mohit Singhal won Ward No. 2, and Jyoti Verma won Ward No. 3 with 2881 votes. Congress mayor candidate Krishan Singla is behind by 6000 votes.BJP’s Stronghold Across Key Municipal BodiesThe BJP launched an aggressive campaign featuring top leaders such as Rajasthan Chief Minister Nayab Saini and Delhi's newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Their outreach efforts, including door-to-door campaigns and roadshows, were countered by Congress leaders like former Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot and senior Haryana leader Bhupinder Hooda.However, the results have been overwhelmingly in favour of the BJP. The Ambala and Sonipat mayoral by-elections were also conducted the same day, while Panipat voted on March 9. Additionally, elections for 21 municipal committees were held simultaneously.Despite the high stakes, voter turnout remained low, with only 41% of eligible voters casting their ballots—a significant drop from the 68% recorded in last year’s Assembly elections. Meanwhile, 26 ward members were elected unopposed, including Kuldeep Singh (Faridabad), Vikas Yadav (Gurugram), Sankalp Bhandari and Sanjeev Kumar Mehta (Karnal), and Bhavna (Yamunanagar).With BJP securing a landslide victory in the municipal elections, the party has further strengthened its grip on Haryana’s urban governance, while Congress continues to struggle for political revival in the state."This victory is credited to the people of Jhulana.
