Dhaka, Jan 24 Bangladesh on Monday commemorated the Mass Uprising Day which marks the climax of the movement of the people of the then East Pakistan for autonomy in 1969 that eventually led to the Independence War and emergence of the country in 1971.On Sunday, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages, expressing profound respect for those who had embraced martyrdom in the historic movement of 1969.Although not fully comparable with what 1789 signifies for France, 1969 signaled the beginning of some revolutionary changes in the history of Pakistan. The end of Ayub Khan's decade of "guided democracy", and the end of Pakistani hegemony in its eastern wing eventuated the birth of Bangladesh.
