Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Marathwada Shikshak Prasarak Mandal (MSPM) may launch a private university in the city in the coming days.
It may be noted that a decade ago, Marathwada had only two government-run non-agriculture universities: Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) and Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University (Nanded). The State Government launched Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) a few years ago.
The MGM Private which was launched in 2019 is the first private university in the region. Maulana Azad Education Trust's city campus also submitted a proposal to the Government for the private university two years ago, but, it is yet to get a green signal from the Govenrment.
Talking to newsmen on Monday, M S P Mandal general secretary MLC Satish Chavan said that they may go for a private university in the coming days after proper implementation of autonomy status granted by the University Grants Commission to Deogiri College and Deogiri Insitute of Engineering.
Currently, the education society runs 23 colleges in the region while the city campus has five colleges. Around 22,000 students are pursuing different undergraduate, and postgraduate courses and junior colleges in the city campus.
He said that they are studying the system of private universities started by other education societies in the State to have a clear idea.
The final year students of the colleges face problems like delays in the declaration of the result and loss of jobs and further education opportunities. He said that private universities can conduct conduct and declare their result on time.
“We have a plan for a private university which can design and redesign courses as per the requirements of industries. This helps students to get placement easily,” said the general secretary of the MSP Mandal.
This will be the third private university in the region to get permission from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
