Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

An IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Chandigarh witnessed a fire scare on Tuesday, allegedly caused by a power bank. Ten passengers from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were among those on board.

The passengers said the aircraft could have met with a major accident if it had been delayed even by 10 minutes. “We survived only by luck,” they said after the incident.

What happened

The flight, carrying Roshan Chhajed and his family along with relatives, 10 passengers in total, was preparing to land at Chandigarh airport when a fire was noticed near the aircraft’s exterior engine area.

According to passengers, the fire was allegedly triggered by a power bank carried by a young passenger. However, the fire originated outside the aircraft cabin, with smoke visible near the exterior. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers were evacuated immediately. Importantly, the power bank did not explode. Had it done so, passengers could have been injured, said Roshan Chhajed.

Emergency evacuation

“We, including my wife Komal, son Naman, and seven relatives, were on board. As the aircraft was landing at Chandigarh, a fire broke out near the engine area outside due to a passenger’s power bank. The aircraft landed safely and passengers evacuated quickly using the emergency air slide,” Chhajed said.

He added that even a slight delay in landing could have led to a serious disaster.
