120 contract fire section employees anxious over permanent recruitment

The municipal administration has announced 222 vacancies, including 120 positions in the fire section. Contract employees fear that the upcoming permanent recruitment may lead to a reduction in their service.

Under the municipal corporation recruitment process, approximately 120 posts will be filled in the fire section. It includes 4 deputy fire station officers, 100 firefighters, and 15 driver-operators. Contract employees have been serving in the department for the past 8 to 10 years. Notably, they played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, including spraying bleach solution in various residential areas using fire department vehicles during the first wave.

However, many of these long-serving employees now exceed the age limits for the new recruitment process, making them ineligible to participate. After years of dedicated service, they are requesting recognition and consideration from the administration.
