In a bizarre incident, a 14-year girl student ended her life by hanging herself with a saree to the steel rod of tin-roof on the second floor of the house at Anandnagar in Garkheda locality. The incident came to light on Monday at 9 pm. Meanwhile, Pundaliknagar police have registered an offence of accidental death. It is learnt that the girl was upset for the past few days after her mother restricted her from viewing video clips, especially of the persons committing suicide, on social media.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjeevani alias Deepali Eknath Ghene (Lane No. 4, Anandnagar - Garkheda).

Police said, " The parents of Sanjeevani earn their livelihood by selling grams and peanuts. Her elder brother is studying and stays out of the station. As a routine, her parents and younger brother (all of them) stepped out of the house on Monday at 6 pm. Sanjeevani helped her mother in starting the moped. She also bid adieu to all of them.

The parents and her younger brother returned home at 9 pm. The door was locked from outside. They started knocking on the door, but there was no response from inside. The parents searched for Sanjeevani in the neighbourhood and her friends but were in vain. Later on, the younger brother climbed up the room on the first floor and found Sanjeevani lying on the ground with a saree entangled around her neck. She had hanged with the steel rod of the ceiling. He came down crying and led the parents to the spot. The parents were also shocked by seeing Sanjeevani on the floor. The news spread in the locality, and neighbours started to inquire. Acting upon the information, the police arrived and shifted Sanjeevani in an unconscious state to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). However, the doctors declared her dead on examination. PSI Meera Chavan is investigating the case.

Active on social media

Sanjeevani was very active on social media (Tik Tok). She had made several videos with her friend on social media. She was the seventh standard student of Kalavati Chavan School in Garkheda. The school is closed due to a pandemic situation, as a result, she was staying at home only.

Mystery over suicide

The assistant police inspector Ghanshyam Sonawane said, " It is a mystery. Sanjeevani was a girl of joyful nature. The reason behind taking such an extreme step is not ascertained. She used to watch videos of suicide on her mother's cellphone repeatedly. Few days ago, her mother got angry and snatched away the cellphone from her as she was continuously watching the suicide videos. Since then, she was upset and was remaining silent. Her friend sustained a severe shock on knowing about the incident.
