Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Incidents of birds being seriously injured after getting entangled in nylon threads have risen sharply in the city and surrounding areas. Birds such as owls, hawks and kites are suffering severe injuries, often requiring surgical intervention. The Forest Department, along with the Man With Indies Foundation, has rescued 27 birds so far.
Several birds were found with deep cuts on their wings and legs, with nylon threads cutting down to the bone in some cases. Two birds suffered complete wing severance and required major, complex surgeries under the supervision of veterinary expert Dr. Shila Jadhav. While timely treatment saved lives, veterinarians warn that some birds may suffer permanent disability and may never be able to fly again.
Shocking statistics from last month
According to the Man With Indies Foundation, at least 27 birds were rescued in the past month after being injured by nylon threads. Out of these, four were in critical condition and required surgery, while the remaining birds are under long-term treatment. These numbers highlight the severe threat posed by nylon threads.
