Aurangabad, Feb 18:
In all, 3480 litres of diesel was stolen
from the petrol pump at Chitepimpalgaon on Solapur – Dhule Highway on Wednesday
morning. The owner of the pump is Pradeep Rathod, brother of corporator Pramod
Rathod.
A case has been registered at the
Chikalthana police station in this regard. The police have opined that it is
the work of some known persons from the surrounding of the petrol pump.
Rathod runs ‘Shri petrol pump’ Bharat
Petroleum Pump at Chitepimpalgaon Shivar. On Wednesday at around 1 am, the
employees of the petrol pump were sleeping as there were no vehicles for
filling the fuel. The thieves stole the diesel at around 5 am.
The thieves came to the pump by cutting
the security fencing from the backside. They had parked a vehicle on the nearby
farm to carry the stolen diesel. They stole the diesel from the 20,000 litres
capacity underground tank. In all, 3,480 litres amounting around Rs 3 lakh were
stolen in the barrels. The police opined that around 5 to 6 persons would be
involved in this theft.
Several road works are going at various places
in the district for which many heavy vehicles are being used. Stolen diesel is
sold to these vehicle owners. The thieves knew the petrol pumps' system because
they stole the diesel from the deep rod of the tank. The police are
investigating in this direction.
