Aurangabad, Jan 18:

A total of five per cent doses of Novel coronavirus vaccine has gone waste in the city on the first day of the vaccination campaign.

A total of 647 doctors, nurses and health employees were vaccinated at ten centres in the district on January 16. while 362 did not turn up for different reasons, including not feeling well and fear of vaccination.

As per the vaccine vial, doses from one bottle should be given to only ten persons.

The vaccine bottles should be used within four hours once they are thawed out for use. There is also a possibility of waste while taking doses from the bottle.

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) received 20,000 doses while ten pc of them may go waste. A total of five per cent doses went waste on the first day of the drive. AMC health officer Dr Neeta Padalkar said that there was a possibility of 10 pc doses going waste.

“A total of 361 employees were vaccinated out of targeted 380. This means 19 (five pc) doses went waste,” she added. Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was given doses for 80 staffers. The hospital administration said that six doses had gone waste as 74 were vaccinated.
