Aurangabad, May 26:
Just a month ago, the number of beds for corona patients in the district was insufficient. Relatives of the patients had to roam for oxygen beds and ventilators. But in May, the numbers dwindled. As a result, 70 per cent of beds are vacant at present. Ventilators are also available. This has come as a relief for administration.
The number of corona patients has been declining for the past few days. A month ago, the number of patients was increasing by one thousand every day. Now an average of 300 to 500 new patients are being diagnosed every day. As a result, the beds in the hospitals are empty. The highest number of beds are vacant in the Covid Care Center. About 90 per cent of the beds are vacant here. Likewise, there is also a sufficient availability of ventilators in the district. However, a few days ago, out of 330 ventilators in the district, not a single ventilator was empty. But now ventilators are also becoming readily available. A month ago, it was difficult for corona patients to get ICU beds. But this is no longer the case. Although the number of corona patients is declining, citizens need to be careful, otherwise the third wave could be troublesome, experts said.
How did the situation change:
As many as 12,975 patients were being treated in Aurangabad on April 26. In just one month, the number of active patients dropped by 60 per cent. This is because the number of patients recovering from treatment has increased more than the number of new patients. The number of people receiving treatment in the district reached 5,000 on Tuesday.
Oxygen demand declines by 26 tonnes
A month ago, 61 tonnes of oxygen was needed daily. But now the demand for oxygen has dropped by 26 tonnes. A total of 35.56 tonnes of oxygen, 21.39 tonnes by private hospitals and 14.17 by government hospitals is required daily.
Crisis is not over
Restrictions have reduced the number of corona patients. But as the number of patients decreases, the citizens should not remain indifferent. Because the corona crisis is not over yet. Citizens should continue to follow the rules, said district surgeon Dr S V Kulkarni.
