Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A family dispute between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law turned tragic when the daughter-in-law, in a fit of anger, slit a vein in her own hand, causing heavy bleeding. Hearing screams from the house, neighbours rushed to the spot. However, the sudden commotion and the sight of her blood-soaked daughter-in-law caused such a severe shock to the 76-year-old mother-in-law that she collapsed and died instantly. The shocking incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Beed Bypass area, leaving the locality stunned.
Disputes between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are common in households and often settle after minor arguments. In this case, however, the quarrel proved fatal. According to police, Krishna (name changed), a resident of the Beed Bypass area, works at a company. On Tuesday morning, he left for work as usual, and his two children also went to school. Shortly afterwards, a dispute broke out at home between his wife (42) and his mother (76).
Overcome by anger, the daughter-in-law took an extreme step and slashed a vein in her left hand, leading to profuse bleeding and loss of consciousness. Neighbours rushed in after hearing screams, but the sudden crowd and the sight of the injured woman proved too much for the elderly mother-in-law, who suffered a severe shock and collapsed on the spot.
Both women rushed to hospital
Neighbours attempted to provide immediate help, but the elderly woman did not regain consciousness. She was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, while the daughter-in-law was admitted to a private hospital. By then, the mother-in-law had already passed away. Police said the daughter-in-law’s condition remains critical, as the blade injury was deep, and she is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Upon receiving information, Assistant Police Inspector Shailesh Deshmukh of Satara police station rushed to GMCH.
Death due to mental shock
Initially, when the 76-year-old woman was admitted to GMCH, assault was recorded as the cause. Consequently, the police discussed the post-mortem with doctors. However, the evening medical report confirmed that the cause of death was “death due to shock,” sources said.
