Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
The traffic police conducted a special enforcement drive on Thursday between 11 am and 6 pm across various parts of the city, taking action against 761 motorists for triple-seat riding and using mobile phones while driving.
Of these, 566 motorcyclists were penalised for triple riding, and fines amounting to Rs 5.66 lakh were imposed. Additionally, 195 motorists were fined Rs 2.38 lakh for speaking on mobile phones while driving. In total, penalties worth Rs 8.04 lakh were collected during the drive. Police said that despite regular traffic regulation efforts, violations and indiscipline among motorists continue to rise, contributing to an increase in accidents. The department stated that strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act will continue against offenders. The drive was carried out by assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Subhash Bhujang and other traffic officials.
