Aurangabad, July 19:

An abandoned canon, recovered from the Vetalwadi jungle, has been shifted for conservation to the Sunehri Mahal. It will be in the custody of the state archaeology.

It so happened that the activists of Sahyadri Pratisthan (Kannad) spotted the canon lying in the Vetalwadi jungle. It is in the jurisdiction of the Department of Forest (DoF, Soyegaon). It was half-buried in the soil. The portion beneath the earth has been rusted, but the weapon as a whole is in good condition. The activists then intimated the DoF officials, who then corresponded with the office of the State Archaeology in Aurangabad. Their efforts paid off and the canon was shifted at Sunehri Mahal.

The range forest officer Rahul Sapkal, forest guard Nitin Multane, archaeological assistant Neelam Gore, Kamaji Dak, assistant director (State Archaeology) Ajit Khandare, Sahaydri Pratisthan's (Kannad) Pawan Giri, Jagdish Kanchar, Ganesh Pawar, Mahesh Bhingare, Pramod Khare, and others were present on the occasion. Khandare applauded the efforts of the organisation and showing their alertness.
