Aurangabad, April 3:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has landed into worry as the recovery of its taxes at the end of March 2021 was less compared to the last year, due to the impact of the Coronavirus. Of the target, the recovery is just 22.99 per cent. The AMC succeeded in garnering a total of Rs 136.82 crore including Rs 107.76 crore property tax and Rs 29.06 crore as water tax. It may be noted that Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivili Municipal Corporations had recorded 90-98 per cent collections in the state.

It may be noted that the recovery of AMC had gained momentum, four to five months ago, when the Mission Begin Again (first wave) got started. The AMC administrator A K Pandey had formed a special task force to take strict action against commercial property-holders to recover the tax dues. The force under the headship of Aparna Thete succeeded in recovering crores of rupees in the past two months.

There is a huge outstanding of property tax on the citizens. Hence the AMC administration had given the target of recovering Rs 468.57 crore during 2020-21. However, the recovery was just 22.99 pc (Rs 136.82 crore). Of all the nine zones in the AMC, the highest collection was made by Zone V (27.64 pc) and the lowest collection is by Zone III (13.63 pc).
