Aurangabad, March 20:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has heaved a sigh of relief after receiving the GST share of Rs 23 crore from the state government on Friday evening. The money will now help the civic administration to release the salary of AMC officials and the pensions of its retired staff. Meanwhile, the AMC is waiting to get its stamp duty share of Rs 24 crore from the state government. The AMC has not yet paid its energy bills and water bills relating to the water supply scheme.

Every month the AMC receives its GST share in the first week. However, when it did not receive the money even after the passing of two weeks in March, the AMC got worried as it was unable to pay salaries and pension of the officials and personnel. Hence it started pursuing the matter aggressively and succeeded on Friday evening.

The state government collects stamp duty on every sale or buying of property situated in the city. The AMC gets a one per cent share on each transaction. We expect to receive a stamp duty share of Rs 24 crore, said the chief accounts officer Sanjay Pawar.

Meanwhile, the AMC is hoping to receive the share more than its expectation as many property transactions took place in the last two months due to concession in stamp duty offered by the state government.
