Aurangabad, March 19:

To prevent the residents from dumping garbage waste in the Kham River, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has installed metal barricades on the bridge built in the Garam Pani area.

It may be noted that the AMC has decided to install barricades on 30 bridges built upon the Kham River and nullahs running across the city to discourage the citizens staying in the vicinity from the dumping of waste daily.

Earlier, the AMC had installed barricades on the bridge in Jaffar Gate. The procurement of material, manufacturing and the installation of steel barricades is done in house by the AMC. This has reduced the project's cost by a whopping 50 per cent as AMC is utilising its own resources.

The inauguration of the barricades in Garam Pani was done by the children living in the area in the presence of the civic officials, on Thursday. While speaking on occasion, the AMC administrator A K Pandey said, “ Through Kham River rejuvenation project, we want to enhance the standard of living of the families and children living on the banks of the water body, apart from transforming the river as a pride of the city”.

AMC's garden superintendent Vijay Patil, head of solid waste management (SWM), Nandkishore Bhombe, garden section's engineer GB Chandak and ASCDCL assistant project manager Aditya Tiwari are working on the procurement and installation of the barricades.

As reported earlier, the AMC and the Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (ASCDCL) have taken up the task of cleaning and rejuvenation of Kham River in association with the Cantonment Board Aurangabad, Varroc and Eco Sattva.
