Aurangabad, Jan 23:

The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) had organised a daylong workshop to apprise the biometric attendance system to the sanitary staff of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) at Maulana Azad Research Centre, yesterday. Accordingly, 1,517 sanitary workers and personnel will be registering their attendance through the new system from February 1.

The biometric system is a component of Smart City’s Master System Integrator (MSI) project. It is to become live under the guidance of the AMC administrator and ASCDCL chief executive officer A K Pandey, soon. Meanwhile, the ASCDCL has enrolled 1517 staff members with their finger impression in the last one month. Meanwhile, the sanitary inspectors, jawans and sanitary workers were informed about the enrolment, use and reporting of their attendance on biometric devices, during the workshop held on Friday. The personnel of the agency appointed for the implementation of the MSI project imparted the training.

According to ASCDCL's assistant project manager, the new attendance system will help the civic body to maintain accurate attendance record, transparency and improve the services. The time wasted in maintaining old register system would be saved and overcome inaccuracies and manual errors. The ASCDCL will hand over 50 biometric devices to AMC, soon.

Help improve ranking in Cleanliness Survey

The head of solid waste management (SWM) cell Nandkishore Bhombe is hopeful that the Information Communication Technology (ICT) based attendance system will help the city to earn points in the Cleanliness Survey (Swachh Survekshan). The sanitation staff will get accustomed to the new system in a week, and the marking of attendance through the biometric system will start from February 1."

The other sanitary personnel and officials will also be enrolled for the biometric attendance system in phases, he said.

Problems to representatives

There are more than 100 sanitary personnel, who never report on their duties, in person. Instead, they had appointed representatives who work on their behalf. This practice is going on for a long time, and the AMC tried to discontinue it but was in vain. Now, in the biometric attendance system, the worker will have to report on duty in person and work accordingly, it is learnt.
