Aurangabad, Feb 2:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has succeeded in collecting property tax and water tax of Rs 87.36 crore till the end of January 2021.

There are 2.52 lakh property holders, including 33,000 commercial establishments in the city. The target collection of property tax and water tax for the current year (2020-21) is Rs 468 crore. Till January end, the AMC collected the property tax of Rs 69 crore and water tax of Rs 18.36 crore, said the deputy commissioner and assessor and collector of tax Aparna Thete.

The recovery of taxes was going on at snail's pace till to date. Besides, due to Covid-19 pandemic situation in the city, the AMC also did not focus on collection from April to October (eight months). The teams comprising task force and ward office have swung into action. They had intensified the drive to recover the taxes. Although, the collection of taxes till January end is less compared to the last year's collection, considering the speed of recovering the taxes, the collection would be more than the last year till March-end, hoped Thete.

As reported earlier, sensation prevailed, and the recovery drive speed up after the municipal commissioner A K Pandey along with the civic officials led the drive to recover taxes. His action yield results and the daily collection of taxes through nine zones is Rs 70 lakh daily, since January 22, it is learnt.
