Aurangabad, March 7:

Due to the ongoing rumours of lockdown, the citizens rushed to Jadhavwadi on Sunday morning to buy vegetables for the week. Even though it was a holiday, the crowd in Mondha seemed to have waned.

The news that the administration would lockdown to curb the growing number of patients in Covid-19 had led to a rush of customers at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Jadhavwadi on Sunday morning. Hundreds of vegetable sellers were sitting not only in front of the shops but also in front of the market committee building. Citizens were buying vegetables for a week. While very few vendors wore masks, the proportion was a little higher among consumers. Just last week, the district collector held a meeting before going on vacation. In it, the Jadhavwadi Agricultural Produce Market Committee had expressed concern over the crowd for buying vegetables. It also directed the market committee to take measures to curb congestion. However, the market committee did not take any precaution.

Get rid of retailers

Due to the retailer, customers are crowding in Jadhavwadi. This is a threat to the lives of farmers as well as traders as corona can spread rapidly. The rush will reduce only if the vendors here are given space to sell vegetables in different areas. The market committee should increase the number of security guards, said Isa Khan, president, fruit and vegetable wholesellers association.
