Aurangabad, March 21:

The vegetable market in Jadhavwadi Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) area will finally resume on Monday. A designated area has been marked for retailers. If the rules are not followed, action will be taken against the sellers, their goods including vegetables will be confiscated and the license of the wholesaler will be revoked, said APMC chairman Radhakisan Pathade.

The APMC has allowed retailers to sell vegetables inside the premises. However, confusion has increased as a notice have been issued stating that consumers should buy vegetables from other vegetable markets or street vendors in the city instead of APMC. Retailers are worried as their business would be impacted. The market committee today marked the main roads and open spaces in the APMC for retailers. Rules have been put in place to prevent corona infection. Large boards have been erected in 6 places with instructions. In addition, a sound system is put in place to tell customers what precautions to take. Each employee of the market committee is assigned to the premises. Action has also been ordered against those who break the rules.

Crowd outside APMC

Hundreds of fruit and vegetable vendors lined the road outside APMC on Sunday. Despite the lockdown, a large crowd had gathered to buy vegetables. It was noticed that there were more retailers than farmers.
