Arambh school inaugurates new autism-friendly building

Arambh, Maharashtra’s first fully equipped autism-friendly school, inaugurated its new building today in Hanumantgaon, Waluj. The facility brings together treatment, special education, and vocational training for children with autism and developmental delays under one roof.

The ceremony opened with a prayer and lamp lighting by students. Founder Ambika Taklakar spoke of her vision to provide quality facilities for children from grassroots backgrounds, inspired by her own autistic child. Dignitaries included Girish Kulkarni, former Commissioner Jivan Sonawane, Kishor Deshpande, Dr. N.M. Jain, and others. Initial donors and trustees extended best wishes, while architect Sameer Ausekar and interior designer Rajesh Chaudhary were honored for child-friendly adaptations. Chairman Balasaheb Taklakar shared plans for a 100-child hostel. Performances by self-taught children and a girls’ band from Sharda Mandir enlivened the event. Girish Kulkarni called Arambh a role model for autism initiatives.
