Aurangabad, Nov 5:

The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation (ASCDCL) has floated a tender inviting competent agencies to preserve, repair and maintain the city''s heritage Clock Tower situated in Shahgunj Chaman.

The ASCDCL will be utilising a smart fund of Rs 29.11 lakh on the task. The last date to submit the tender is November 18, said the project manager.

The last ruler of the Nizam Dynasty, Mir Osman Ali Khan, built the tower in 1930. Being a heritage structure of importance, the administration has plans to search for a competent agency in Hyderabad if they fail to get one here.

The tower plays an important role during the holy month of Ramzan. The Muslims would observe and break their fast by hearing the siren transmitted from the Clock Tower. The structure had fallen victim to the apathy of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officers. Citing reason for fund, they were avoiding undertaking the works to preserve the heritage of the city.
