Aurangabad, Jan 30:

The municipal corporation had removed the encroachments on the service road on Beed Bypass to curb the rising number of accidents and to ease the traffic. But even after two years, the service road is still in limbo.

The Beed Bypass road has become a death trap for motorists. Two youths had died in the accident two days ago. Minor accidents are also reported every day. People residing in Satara-Deolai area have to risk their lives while travelling on this road. Meetings have been held in the presence of commissioner of police, Public Works Department, Municipal corporation, RTO and district collector regarding construction of the service road. But no attention is paid to it.

The road was cleared of encroachments but the road has again been encroached by businesses. The road is also being used as a parking lot for heavy vehicles. This causes traffic congestion from Mahanubhav Ashram to Deolai Phata. Despite the demand that the construction of service road should be started, it is being consistently ignored.

Asphalting on both sides

Work is underway to widen the one-lane on both sides of the bypass road, and senior officials will decide on the planned service road. Road work is in full swing and will soon be completed, said Sunil Kolse, branch engineer, PWD.
