Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
An attempt was allegedly made to run over a corporator in the Bhagatsinghnagar area of Garkheda after he tried to stop suspected car thieves from fleeing with a luxury vehicle parked outside his residence. The incident occurred at around 2.10 am on May 6, and a case has been registered at Pundaliknagar Police Station.
According to the complaint lodged by municipal corporation corporator Munshi Bhikan Shaikh, he had returned home around 1.50 am after completing personal work. While monitoring CCTV footage in the hall of his residence, he noticed an unidentified person near his parked Scorpio vehicle (MH 20 GK 8077).
The suspect, described as wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans, was allegedly seen opening the vehicle door and sitting inside the car. On noticing this, Shaikh rushed outside in an attempt to catch him. Seeing the corporator approaching, the suspect got out of the vehicle and entered another black Scorpio (MH 04 G 5604) parked nearby.
When the corporator attempted to stop them, the accused allegedly drove the vehicle directly towards him in an attempt to run him over. The corporator reportedly escaped narrowly by jumping aside in time, according to the complaint.
High-speed chase through city roads
Following the alleged attack, Shaikh chased the black Scorpio in his own Fortuner vehicle through Sutgirni Chowk, Osmanpura, Devgiri College area, Baba Petrol Pump, Karnapura, Nagar Naka and Padegaon up to the Dhule-Solapur Highway. However, the suspects managed to escape.
Police from Pundaliknagar Police Station visited the spot after the incident and have launched a search operation based on CCTV footage collected from the area.
