Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The agitation over the severe water shortage in the CIDCO Waluj Mahanagar area finally achieved success after the MIDC administration assured an additional 2 MLD water supply to the locality. Following the assurance, Panchayat Samiti member Dattatray Warpe withdrew his indefinite hunger strike, which formally concluded in the presence of MIDC Chief Executive Engineer Balasaheb Zhanje.
Residents of the CIDCO Waluj Mahanagar area had been facing serious water scarcity for several days due to irregular and inadequate supply, leading to growing public anger. Despite repeated protests, representations, and follow-ups with the authorities, the issue remained unresolved, prompting Warpe to begin his agitation outside the MIDC office from Monday. He had demanded that at least 12 MLD water be supplied to the area. On May 14, women protesters also staged a sit-in protest at the MIDC office and confronted officials over the issue. Several MIDC officials, residents, supporters, and women protesters were present when the hunger strike was withdrawn.
Executive Engineer Rameshchandra Giri, deputy engineer K M Chate, assistant engineer Varsha Kurhade, along with MIDC officials, women protesters, local residents, and supporters, were present in large numbers on the occasion.
