Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The city is witnessing a sharp rise not only in domestic vehicles but also in imported, foreign-made luxury cars. The growing preference for high-end vehicles reflects the changing economic profile of the financially affluent class in the city.

Vehicles priced at Rs 1 crore or more attract a special tax starting from a minimum of Rs 20 lakh. According to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), substantial revenue has been generated from the registration of such premium vehicles. Officials confirmed that the demand for imported cars has increased steadily.

26 imported cars registered in a year

From April to March of the 2025–26 financial year, a total of 26 imported luxury cars were registered with the RTO. High-end brands such as Rolls-Royce, Phantom, Ferrari, Lexus and Land Cruiser are now visible on city roads.

Rise in electric cars

In addition, 1,902 electric cars were registered across the district in the past year, indicating a growing inclination toward environmentally friendly vehicles. Despite additional taxes and regulations applicable to imported vehicles, buyers are willingly completing the process to own such cars.

Who is buying them?

Industrialists, businesspersons and high-income groups are driving the demand. Some of these luxury vehicles are priced above Rs 5 crore, while several others fall in the Rs 1 crore-plus category. The appeal lies in luxury features, comfort and brand value.
