A 14-year-old Class IX student was killed on the spot after a speeding container rammed into his motorcycle on the Dahegaon–Bidkin state highway near Mukteshwar Sugar Mill in Gangapur tehsil on Saturday at around 8.45 am.
The deceased has been identified as KrishnaMhase of Bhagatwadi. His friend, Pawan More, who was riding with him, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. According to police, Krishna, a student of Rashtramata Jijau English School in Shendurwada, usually travelled by bus but had gone to school on motorcycle (MH 20 FD 6688) on the day of the incident. A container (RJ 19 GK 3585) allegedly hit the two-wheeler from behind near a roadside dhaba. Krishna came under the vehicle’s wheels and died instantly, while Pawan was thrown aside. The body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem and later cremated at Bhagatwadi. Villagers thrashed the driver, who allegedly attempted to flee, before handing him over to police. Waluj police have taken the driver into custody and further investigation is underway.
